The WoodChuck Shop is located in
Juneau, Wisconsin--a
town of approximately 2500 people in the heart of Wisconsin. Charles Schuster,
a retired Industrial Arts teacher, has been into toy making since about 1965.
He always loved working with wood ever since his childhood, so he became a
teacher. Charles worked at the local high school for 30 years and retired in
1990. He had a real love and joy for teaching and it showed, as his classes
were making very enthusiastic projects, such as Grandfather Clocks, Pool
tables, Curio Cabinets, etc.
As far as how Charles got started into a
woodworking career is an interesting story. It all started when he was nine
years old. Chuck went to visit his grandparents in Michigan and his grandfather
gave him a small toolbox containing some woodworking tools. He took the tool
box with him everywhere he went. The seed of woodworking had been planted!
When Charles had a family and children of his own, he became tired of
trying to fix his children's plastic toys and then seeing that they could not
be fixed, since glue does not work very well with some plastics. So he started
making toys for his own children and then for some of his friends and
colleagues children and then it just kept going from there.
Charles is
the wood master in the little town of Juneau. If someone has a problem with a
table or chair, they will bring it down to the shop and he will fix it. He
loves to spend hours in the shop, that is probably why he has over 125 items
that can be purchased. Charles makes quality wooden toys; toys that are
functional, interactive and interchangeable; toys that enhance both fine and
gross motor skills and encourage child development; toys that are safe, rugged
and will become heirlooms for generations to come. His toys and other products
are very durable and most are made to withstand the play action of
children.
If it can be made out of wood, he can make it so if you have
